Campers on Mission (COM) is a national fellowship of Christian campers who desire to share their faith where they are camping, sponsored by the North American Mission Board (NAMB) of the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC).
Membership is open to Christian campers with a willingness to join with other campers in fellowship and service. Whether you are a tent camper, a backpacker, an RVer, a touring cyclist or a trailer camper, a seasonal camper, a weekend camper or a “whenever-you-can-find-time-to” Christian camper you are invited to join COM.
Arkansas (AR) COMers may be retired couples, young families or singles who want to share their faith "as they go" camping, in "organized and focused" ministries and in requests to provide "flexible" skills of various experience levels to help those in need, such as New Orleans Rebuild or other requested support. Some organized and focused ministries are at annual events and some are initiated job work projects. These include:
- Fair booths at various district and county fairs,
- Youth Camp support activities including snack bar, games, facilities clean up, painting, maintenance and repair,
- Some specialized ministries to disadvantaged and abused youth and children, and to unwed mothers-to-be.
Last year, at the annual National Rally in Tennessee, AR COM was recognized for recording 87 professions of faith in Christ (POF) and over 3,800 working hours of volunteer activities. This was the second highest POF of all 28 states at the national COM meeting. More than 35 of these POF were made because members shared the gospel message at fair booths, giving out salvation bracelets made of colored beads. Hundreds of salvation tracts and free Bibles were given out, compliments of Dixie Jackson Arkansas Missions Offering and COM personal funding.
AR COM have two rallies for organization, training and fellowship each year, one in the spring and one in the fall.
Joint projects are being planned with other Arkansas Baptist State Convention volunteer ministries to do repair work at Camp Paron this fall.
COM will host the 2008 National COM Rally “Harvesting For Jesus in the Natural State,” June 18-20, 2008 at the Expo Center at Kay Rodgers Park in Ft. Smith. Many people are planning and working hard to make this an enjoyable and spiritually rewarding experience for all of our states' COMers. Don’t miss this! Prospects come join with us.
