On May 18th and 19th, a group of over 50 student interns, mentors, leaders, and guests gathered at Camp Paron for E4Call orientation, a time for networking and to learn what being called to ministry is about.
Based on Ephesians 4, E4Call is an Arkansas Baptist (ABSC) avenue aimed at high school and college students sensing a call to ministry. Participants are given opportunities to explore God's call through mentorships, exposure to various resources, and SBC networking with like-minded individuals.
Activities included a session on diversity in the calling, break-outs for newbies and alumni, one-on-one mentor/student time, evangelism training, and personality and spiritual gifts assessments. There was lots of good food and fun culminating with a wonderfully meaningful worship service with Dr. Sonny Tucker, ABSC Executive Director, encouraging the group. Music was led by Kasey Earl and his band.
Jesus gave us an example of mentorship by the way He trained His disciples:
- I do, you watch
- I do, you help
- You do, I help
- You do, I watch
- You do, someone else watches
Paul urges believers in Ephesians 4:1 to “live a life worthy of the calling you have received.” To help believers live out their calling, Paul continues in verses 11-13, “Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.”
We are each on a journey. Some of us are farther along, and others, such as the students participating in E4Call, are just beginning, trying to discern their call to ministry.
The E4Call orientation provides a launch pad for student interns and their mentors to begin their summer together with others along the same journey. For the summer of 2017, 27 students are exploring their call to ministry in 17 churches or associational positions under 20 mentors. Join us in praying for these future leaders of the Body of Christ.
