The ABSC is pleased to partner with GuideStone Financial Resources. GuideStone is the benefits board of the Southern Baptist Convention, providing insurance and retirement products to employees of Southern Baptist Churches since 1918.
The ABSC is one of 16 state conventions providing a staff member who represents GuideStone on the state level. William Jaques is our GuideStone state representative. He will be happy to assist you with enrollment in the Church Retirement Plan, applying for insurance, completing your retirement benefit application, or answer any questions you have concerning GuideStone.

- Compensation Planning Guide (formerly Planning Financial Support): This seminar is designed to walk churches through a six-step process for planning a financial support package for ministry staff in a way that clarifies true personal income and saves taxes for your staff. Persons who should attend this seminar: Ministry staff, secretarial staff, finance team members, treasurers, financial secretaries, personnel team members, anyone interested in learning more about ministers’ taxes.
- Your Church and Money: This seminar is designed to cover all aspects of the church and its finances. Participants will discuss:
- The Church as Employer (payroll reporting requirements, classification of employees, special tax rules for ministers, IRS compliance, ministerial staff compensation).
- The Church as a Non-Profit Organization (preventing false accusations, proper cash controls, charitable giving law, basics for budgeting).
- Cultivating Generosity in Your Church (importance of stewardship promotion, available resources). Persons who should attend this seminar: Ministry staff, secretarial staff, finance team members, treasurers, financial secretaries, personnel team members, anyone interested in learning more about IRS requirements for churches.
- Preparing for Retirement: This seminar is designed to help those who are 10 years or less from retirement to think through what steps they should take to prepare for retirement.
- Staying on Track: What Type Investor are You?: This is an update meeting for churches who have staff members already enrolled in the Church Retirement Plan. Attention will be paid to the importance of being an intentional, big picture, connected investor. - The Church Retirement Plan: If you work at a Southern Baptist Church and earn taxable (W-2) income, you are eligible to enroll in the Church Retirement Plan. This seminar is an introduction to the Church Retirement Plan, presenting an overview of the plan, who is eligible to enroll, and some free benefits provided by the ABSC for those enrolled. All church employees are eligible to participate in the 403b Church Retirement Plan through GuideStone Financial Resources of the Southern Baptist Convention. Most church employees are eligible for a free $500 Disability benefit and a free Survivor benefit up to $100,000.
