Arkansans Needed in New Orleans | Print |  E-mail PDF

In the wake of hurricanes Katrina and Rita, some 5,015 Arkansans served over 1.8 million meals through Arkansas Baptist State Convention disaster relief kitchens.  2,624 volunteers serving on chainsaw teams cleared trees and debris from almost 1,500 yards!

Now, Arkansas Baptists are helping to rebuild homes in the Gentilly area of New Orleans.

From now through November 2007, we are in great need of “helpers” to pull wire and install light switches/wall plug boxes in homes.  The homes are totally gutted.  Helpers will not be required to “hook up” the wires to the switches and plugs.  A licensed electrician will perform that work.  Helpers will NOT handle live electrical lines at all.

Helpers:

  • will be housed at the Gentilly Baptist Church, 5141 Franklin Ave., New Orleans.
  • will have daily access to showers and washer/dryer.
  • upon arrival will receive training from an Arkansas Baptist serving as the onsite coordinator.
  • are asked to provide their own transportation and bring air mattresses.
  • are asked to serve from a Saturday through Saturday, but those who can offer less time are welcome – even a day!  Choose any week between now and November, 2007.
  • are asked to pay $10 per day, which will provide three meals per day for the entire stay.
  • can go by themselves, or form teams from their church and/or association.

In addition, we need insulation/drywall installation teams, serving under the same terms above.

See guidelines.

Thank you for your service to the Lord and your giving to the Dixie Jackson Arkansas Missions Offering.
