OBITUARY: Roger Dean Fryar
With heartfelt reverence, we honor the life of Roger Dean Fryar, a charismatic and compassionate soul who entered this world on September 21, 1951, in Paris, Texas. Roger touched the hearts of many with his laughter, empathy, and selfless acts of kindness. He was a beacon of light in the lives of those fortunate to have known him, radiating warmth, generosity, and faith. His life was a testament to the scripture from Matthew 5:16 - "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven."
Roger was a man of many talents. After a distinguished career as a Forester with the US Forest Service, he retired in 2009, only to channel his energy into a myriad of hobbies that reflected his zest for life. From fishing with his sons to beekeeping, from strumming the strings on his guitar, banjo, mandolin, and ukulele to mastering foreign languages (Spanish and Italian), he lived each day with passion and purpose. Roger's extraordinary leadership skills were recognized in his roles as Disaster Relief Team Captain and US Forest Service Incident Command. His faith was profound, leading music for his Sunday school class at the First Baptist Church in Russellville, Arkansas, participating in foreign mission trips to Mexico, El Salvador, and Honduras, and leading a Disaster Relief Team out of the same church.
Roger is survived by his wife of 54 years, Janet Fryar, their children Becky, Mike, Stephen, and Barbara, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and by his brother Wayne Fryar with his spouse Linda and daughter Stephanie Ellington. His love for his family was a testament to his compassionate nature, and what mattered most to him was his faith and family. Preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Bernice Fryar, Roger’s legacy of love and faith continues to live on in the hearts of those he left behind.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at 10:00 am CST at the First Baptist Church, 200 South Denver Avenue, Russellville, Arkansas, 72801. Visitation will commence after the service.
