Preview Day gives students inside look at Ouachita Worship Studies
ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Ouachita Baptist University will host a Worship Studies Preview Day 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 26, giving prospective students an opportunity to learn about the program, meet current students and faculty, and explore opportunities for ministry and musical development.
Larry Grayson, chair of Worship Studies at Ouachita’s School of Performing Arts, said the day is designed to give prospective students and their families a closer look at the program and its community.
“The Worship Studies Preview Day will provide students and their families the chance to learn all about Worship Studies and see our incredible facilities in our Worship Studies Lab,” Grayson said.
Lunch will be provided, and there will be an option for campus tours and music scholarship auditions at the conclusion of the day.
“This day is built totally around the Worship Studies department, offering everything a typical campus visit will offer, plus connecting with current worship studies students, faculty and staff,” Grayson said.
He also emphasized the program’s focus on preparing students for ministry.
“Worship Studies has an incredible community … a strong camaraderie that cares for and supports your musical development, your spiritual development, your development as a minister and your leadership skills,” Grayson said.
The need for trained worship leaders is expected to grow in Southern Baptist churches. During the Southern Baptist Convention Worship Micro Conference in Orlando, the SBC Worship Research Committee released findings from a study of 4,530 congregations. According to the researchers, Southern Baptist churches could face a shortage of approximately 20,000 worship leaders over the next 15 years.
“That is an overwhelming need,” Grayson said. “Worship Studies wants the opportunity to prepare you to be a part of filling that need in our churches.”
