BCM Students Reflect on Summer Ministry

Baptist Collegiate Ministry (BCM) students have incredible opportunities during the summer to serve in a variety of ways. As a campus minister, I love when students use a week, month, or entire summer to serve! God honors that time in ways that many students do not expect. Over the summer, students can serve in many different places and in a variety of opportunities. Below are a few examples with their comments about their summer experience.

Landon Headrick – Student Intern, Conway FBC

Landon has been exploring a call to ministry and planned to use this summer as an opportunity to receive some guidance from God. “I came into the summer still unsure about what I want to do with my life. I showed up to the church with an open mind and an open heart. I wanted to learn as much as I could.”

“At a beach retreat, I was able to share the Gospel with a student who had never heard it before. The student I shared with accepted Jesus and was baptized that night! Some of his friends who saw the change in his life started to feel conviction as well. It was incredible to see, and I’ve been meeting weekly with several students to disciple them and read through the Bible together.”

“I’ve learned that I have a huge heart for the students at Conway First Baptist. It has been amazing to see how God is moving in the students’ lives and I’m forever grateful to watch it happen. This summer has helped me accept my call into vocational ministry after college!”

Bethany Hirmer – Staffer, Super Summer Arkansas

Bethany had been serving this summer but had not expected to spend 10 days working with students at SSAR. “I had previously turned down the offer to staff but soon regretted it. When they needed someone last minute, I knew this was the Lord telling me to go. I was so nervous but just wanted to serve the Lord and knew he would equip me to do so.”

“I grew so close with my fellow staffers and first group of campers. There is no greater feeling than being able to share and openly talk about God’s word. By this point in the week, I was comfortable and loving every minute of the day. “

“My senior high group asked the best questions and the conversations I had with the girls during invitation time were perfectly led by God. Several of my girls made significant decisions during the week! I am so thankful to have gotten another opportunity to serve.”

Isabella Grissom – Nehemiah Teams, IMB

Isabella has been in Southeast Asia serving for two months this summer with the International Mission Board. She is working among unreached and unengaged people groups. The nature of her work doesn’t allow us to share many details, but we’ve received a great update from her.

“It’s amazing! We’re at our workers house now, going to more locations in the next two weeks. Already been to five others. There are times where I miss the comfort of home/America in general, but God is doing some amazing things here and I am SO here for it!”
