The campus of Ouachita Baptist University was buzzing the week of July 8-13 with 903 campers involved in PraiseWorks (students grades 6-12) and JoyWorks (children grades 3-6). The days were filled with incredible worship, training in almost any skill area that is included in the worship/tech realm of the church, and being challenged to grasp how to use those skills to lead the church to engage in worship. The greatest celebration is that 18 PraiseWorks students and 11 JoyWorks students became first time followers of Jesus! 24 PraiseWorks students attended an EXPLORE YOUR CALL with 35 stating that God is calling them into ministry for their life’s work! There were over 180 other decisions.
PraiseWorks’ camp pastor, John Schaffner (former Arkansas BCM director, now senior pastor in Winnipeg), challenged students with the theme “BE”. The importance of understanding who we are in Christ guided the week of worship as well as the 38 tracks that offered training in specific areas of interest. The evening worship team was led by Robert Ramsey, FBC Russellville, while the morning worship was led by students with amazing gifts and a heart for God!
JoyWorks’ camp pastor, Rob Dunning (Former Lead Elementary Pastor at The Church at Battle Creek, now Associate Pastor at Foundation Church in Sapulpa, Ok) challenged the children directed by the theme UNASHAMED (2 Timothy 2:5). Their week of powerful worship, tracks, and choir left children eager to return for more next year! Caleb Reynolds, Dover First Baptist Church, did an outstanding job of connecting with the children and leading them in worship. Pam Andrews, children’s Christian songwriter and clinician, wrote all but one of the songs the children learned and led them in an exciting and life-changing experience!
With the shortage of worship leaders who can meet the needs of our churches, and the need to raise up the next generation of worshippers with depth and understanding, these camps are an opportunity like no other to pour into children and students. 2020 camps will occur July 13-17 on the campus of Ouachita Baptist University. Plan now to have your students be a part of PraiseWorks and JoyWorks! For more information contact Larry Grayson (email@example.com), Melissa Overstreet (firstname.lastname@example.org).
