2024 Jail and Prison Ministry Training

The Missions Team is partnering with the Arkansas Sheriffs' Association to provide jail/prison-ministry-related classes: 

Who: Anyone interested in jail/prison ministry - this is not a "denominational" training
When: Saturday, January 27, 2024 8:45 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. (snacks/coffee provided)
Cost: $10 per person; pre-registration required - see below. 
Where: Arkansas Baptist State Convention 10 Remington Drive, Little Rock
 

This time we're offering some breakout sessions that will help both NEW and CURRENT jail/prison volunteers.  See below for online links to our basic classes. 

9:00 a.m. to 9:50 a.m.  - Choose from: 
“Prison and Jail volunteers: How to recognize and deal with games that  jail/prison inmates play and how to protect yourself from the “con.” (repeated at 11:00am)    Taught by a former inmate! - Tracy Lindsey, Director, Tetelstai House, Omaha, AR; also volunteers for the Boone County Jail 

“What is a volunteer CRA (Certified Religious Assistant) in the prison system, and why you may want to become one.” CRA's are trained prison ministry volunteers that help chaplains minister to inmates in many ways.  
Taught by Joshua Mayfield, Administrator of Religious Services, Arkansas Department of Corrections


10:00 a.m. to 10:50 a.m.  - Choose from: 

“Resources for County/City Jail Ministry”  Learn about resources for jail volunteers and inmates.  Examples: curriculum (ideas for workbooks and worksheets); online jail training; How to create a local resource sheet for inmates (clothing, food banks and other services) and more!  -  Tracy Lindsey 

“Teaching inmates in prison PAL (faith based) programs – What are the top 5 subjects we need taught?”  Learn about needs in PAL, how to apply, how to prepare, how often you’d teach, and more.  - Joshua Mayfield  


11:00 a.m. to 11:50 a.m.  - Choose from: 
“How to recognize and deal with games that jail/prison inmates play and how to protect yourself from the “con.” (This is a repeat of the 9:00 a.m. class)

“Prison Culture"  learn about the sub-cultures in every prison;  communication in prison: prison jargon/slang, non-verbal cues; hierarchy among inmates: why some inmates have influence and others don’t; and more!” - Joshua Mayfield
