Bible storying is crafting stories that are biblically accurate for the purpose of sharing Jesus with anyone and everyone. Bible storying is telling Bible stories in a natural way, using a method that focuses on evangelism and discipleship, and is a craft that can be used anywhere in the world to share the gospel.
Internationally, story fellowship groups can become house churches. In the United States, story fellowship groups might be your Sunday School class, a small group that meets in your home, or it might be a group of kids in a Backyard Bible Club. Wherever you are, you should always be ready to share your story and the good news about Jesus. Bible storying gives you an easy, natural approach. And who doesn’t like a good story?
Bible storying workshops will benefit those who are:
- Going on missions trips (international, national, or state)
- Involved as leaders/volunteers in Christian Women’s / Christian Men’s Job Corps
- Ministering among peoples in poverty
- Working with internationals
- Sunday School teachers and Bible study leaders
- Serving among trafficked peoples
- Ministry among secondary orals in the community (high school and/or college graduates who do not read and get all their information from the media)
Through the Arkansas Baptist State Convention's Missions Team, Bible storying workshops are offered once a year. A workshop is one day long (9 a.m. – 5 p.m.), with a lunch break provided, usually held on a Saturday at the Arkansas Baptist State Convention office in Little Rock.
The following are two testimonies about Bible Storying Workshop experiences:
Bible Storying Workshop in Delta Baptist Association
At the end of the day on Saturday, January 16th, thirteen participants from three churches in the Lake Village area left the Bible Storying Workshop with a much clearer idea of what Bible storying is and how to use it in their own lives and ministries. Several of them are getting ready for an international missions trip and wanted to be able to use storying overseas. Others wanted a fresh idea for their Sunday school classes, and the pastors who were there could even see ways to incorporate Bible storying from the pulpit.
Cowboy Church Hosts Bible Storying Training
Over 3 Sunday evenings in January, Calvary Trail Cowboy Church in Louann hosted a Bible Storying Workshop. Calvary Trail’s pastor, Donny Hargett, wants to use the process to begin home groups and possibly even plant other Cowboy Churches in the area. No matter whom you are trying to reach with the Gospel – young, old, near, far – Bible storying is a useful tool. And as you learn how to share Bible stories and craft Bible stories, the Gospel becomes more deeply lodged in your own heart and life as well.
The Missions Team can help individual churches or groups arrange to host their own Bible storying workshop.
