4 Ways to Get Involved with Hurricane Relief

4 Ways to Get Involved with Hurricane Relief

Hurricane Florence recently made contact on the East Coast. We are anticipating the destruction will be widespread. As a result, Arkansas Baptist Disaster Relief units are on standby and ready to deploy. The current plans have Arkansas partnering with Oklahoma Baptist Disaster Relief to provide flood & chainsaw recovery teams.

Our Disaster Relief teams are ready to deploy due to the on-going work of Dixie Jackson. This highlights the importance of every Arkansas Baptist's gift because disaster donations given during a crisis are too late to prepare units for service; Dixie Jackson supports their preparation, and disaster donations support the on-going costs of deployment. As you pray about giving, please remember the vital role your Dixie Jackson offering plays in times like this.

We are proud that when disaster strikes, Arkansas Baptists respond. This list will provide very real ways you, your family, and your church can immediately plug in to the relief effort.

1. PRAY

  • Pray for survivors: pray for peace of mind, comfort, and patience for those impacted directly by this storm.
  • Pray for first responders and medical teams: pray as they respond to calls across the coast and for the medical needs of survivors.
  • Pray for Disaster Relief volunteers: pray for safe travels, safe deployment, and peace for their families who stay behind.
  • Pray for Chaplains: pray that Disaster Relief chaplains will lead many to the Lord in the coming days.

2. GIVE

Following a natural disaster, there are many immediate needs. While a common response is to send water, clothing, food, and other necessities, these kind of donations often hamper relief efforts because roads are blocked and distribution is difficult.

Financial gifts immediately support approved relief efforts that can deliver resources to relief sites. Financial gifts directly serve those affected because they supply approved relief efforts as well as cover costs that support the volunteers.

3. GO

As a result of the size of this disaster, teams and volunteers will be needed in the coming days and weeks. Credentialed Disaster Relief volunteers should contact their unit leaders for volunteer needs. For others, attend the upcoming training event to become a Disaster Relief Volunteer.
