Devotional Ideas for Couples

Other than our relationship with Jesus Christ, our relationship to our spouse is the next most important relationship.  It’s important that we intentionally nurture that relationship in a variety of ways for spiritual and relational health.  Below are a few suggestions to help you take some initiative to invest in marriage.

 

PRAY TOGETHER

  • Pray together in the morning before you leave the house.
  • Call each other and pray over the phone for one another during the day.
  • Pray together in the evening before going to sleep.

READ THE BIBLE ON MARRIAGE TOGETHER

  • Identify key Scriptures related to marriage. 
  • Read the same passage of Scripture separately and then find a time where you ask each other what you learned and how you will apply that in your life.
  • Complete an inductive Bible study on marriage using the THINK method.

READ THE BIBLE TOGETHER

  • Read through the Bible together and discuss what you learn.
  • Read the same passage of Scripture separately and then find a time where you ask each other what you learned and how you will apply that in your life.
  • Complete an inductive study on different passages using the THINK method.

READ MARRIAGE DEVOTION BOOKS TOGETHER

  • Read through a marriage devotion book together with your spouse (See Marriage Resources).
  • Take turns reading to one another.
  • Takes turns leading discussions.

MEMORIZE KEY VERSES ON MARRIAGE TOGETHER

  • Identify some key verses that will help you deal with issues you struggle with.
  • Memorize one verse a week.
  • Review verses consistently.

READ GENERAL DEVOTION BOOKS TOGETHER

  • Read through a general devotion book with your spouse and discuss what you learned your specific readings. 
  • Take turns reading to one another.
  • Takes turns leading discussions.

READ A MARRIAGE EMAIL NEWSLETTER TOGETHER


COMPLETE A COUPLE CHECKUP TOGETHER

  • Read “The Couple Checkup” by David Olson and discuss a chapter at a time.
  • Complete the online assessment at www.couplecheckup.com
  • Discuss your results and complete a different exercise from the downloadable workbook each week.

READ AND DISCUSS A TOPIC SPECIFIC BOOK ON MARRIAGE TOGETHER

  • Choose a book related to a particular topic you want to address in your marriage (See Marriage Resources).
  • Read the same book and discuss a chapter each week.
  • Take turns leading discussions.
