“There are a lot of forgotten people in a lot of forgotten places across rural America.”

There are over 60 million people in America living in a rural context, and in Nebraska there is only one SBC church for every 4,300 people.  Furthermore, in the western part of the state, there is only one SBC church across 13 counties.  All of this led Logan and Emily McCourtney to begin praying that God would send more laborers into the harvest.  But it wasn’t long before they became the answer to their own prayers.

“The question is not if you’re called to missions, but where and how,” says Logan.  “We loved serving the church in Northeast Arkansas.”  But a couple of years ago God made it clear they were to go where there was little Gospel witness.  And along the way, God also made it possible for Logan to be trained through the church planting residency at The Summit Church, for the McCourtneys to be sent out through FBC Beebe and finally to be endorsed by NAMB as a planter in Nebraska.

Logan has been teaching at a community college and the local correctional facility.  This has put him in closer proximity to the people they are hoping to reach and has recently opened the door for him to start a Bible study at the prison.  And thanks to new connections with Honduran believers, they are also beginning outreach efforts to an increasing Hispanic population that has no current evangelical churches among them.

PRAYER POINTS: Let’s pray that God would raise up believers to be part of the church.  Pray, as well, for healthy friendships and family rhythms for Logan, Emily and their three young children.

When you give to your church, you give to missions through the Cooperative Program, bringing the Good News to the whole world. Find more CP resources at ABSC.org/CPShare.
